온갖 학교들

2024년이 끝나가는 지금, ‘교육’ 또는 ‘학교’는 (적어도) 서울의 미술계에서 작은 유행을 일으키고 있는 것 같습니다. 이런 교육 프로그램들은 서울문화재단, 한국문화예술위원회 등의 공공 기금 지원을 받아 이뤄지거나, 국공립 및 사립 미술관의 프로그램으로, 또는 교육 ‘시장’의 영역에서 이뤄지곤 합니다.

큐레이팅 스쿨 서울 0.5학기 세 번째 수업은 ‘학교’를 열쇳말로 삼아 지금 이곳에서 일어나고 있는 (예술-미술) 교육 행위들을 다 함께 검색하고, 정리하고, 나눠보는 모임을 해보려 합니다. 한 날 한 시에 모여 빈 구글 문서와 수십 개의 웹 브라우저 창을 띄워놓고, 우리가 찾아내는 것들을 동시에 수집, 정리해보려 합니다.

친구들 혹은 동료들이 모여 함께 리서치 겸 브레인스토밍을 한다고 생각해보세요. 우리가 함께 모여 몇 시간을 보내고 나면, 혼자서 알아보려면 긴 시간이 걸릴 온갖 자료들로 이뤄진 공유 문서가 탄생할 것입니다.

(예술-미술) 교육의 현재에 대한 관찰과 미래에 대한 상상을 담아낼 이 문서로부터, 우리 시대의 ‘학교’에 대해 함께 물어야 할 질문을 알아봅시다. 큐레이팅 스쿨 서울을 통해 통해 함께 답을 찾아나갈 질문도, 함께 도출할 수 있을 거예요.

All the Schools

As 2024 draws to a close, ‘education’ or ‘school’ seems to be creating a small trend in Seoul’s art scene. These educational programs often receive public funding. Organizations like the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture and Arts Council Korea provide this funding. They are also offered as programs at public and private art museums. Additionally, they exist within the education ‘market’ sector.

The third session of Curating School Seoul’s Semester 0.5 will use ‘school’ as a keyword to collectively search, organize, and share (art-visual art) educational activities happening here and now. We will gather at the same time and place. We will open an empty Google document and dozens of web browser windows. Then, we will simultaneously collect and organize what we find.

Think of it as research and brainstorming with friends or colleagues. We will spend a few hours together. Then, we will create a shared document. It will be filled with various materials that would take much longer to discover alone.

Let’s explore questions we should ask together about the ‘schools’ of our time. This document will capture observations about the present and imaginations about the future of (art-visual art) education. We can also develop questions to find answers together through Curating School Seoul.

Pre-reading Materials
Reading materials will be provided before the meeting/class. Among Curating School Seoul’s staff, Park Jaeyong and Park Sejin will translate the “Introduction” chapters from these two books and send them via email:
